What is Column Care?
Column Care is an 8 bedroom unit providing acute mental health care, respite (long and short) and rehabilitation service for people with enduring mental health problems, learning disabilities and acquired brain inury - between the ages of 18 and 65 years.
The unit has been open for almost three years and has been refurbished to the highest standard throughout and most rooms are en-suite. The unit is situated a short distance from Blackpool town centre and the facilities that it offers, shopping facilities, theatres and concert venues, cinema, restaurants and leisure facilities.
Our aim is to assist, support and encourage residents to redevelop skills that they may have lost whilst in hospital (or to develop new skills) to ensure that they are equipped to return to more independent living in the community. We work with residents to develop their care plan (known as a Life-Plan) which is resident led. They are designed to enable people to achieve their goals during their stay at Column House. Skills development may include, but is not limited to, budgeting, cooking, and household skills, adult education/evening classes, healthy eating, exercise, self-medication etc...
All residents will have their own room key and bathroom facilities, (whether it this is their own en-suite or the main bathrooms). Each bedroom has a single bed, colour television, wardrobe, bedside table, a chest of drawers and a seating area. There will be a high level of staff on at all times and a range of therapies are available to all residents. The therapies on offer include:

Residents are likely to be referred either through their CPN, GP, CMHT or NHS Consultant. Column House will also accept privately funded self referrals. Three of the eight bedrooms are on the ground floor. All residents will be registered with the local medical practice, which is very close to the unit and with whom we have built a good working relationship. It also has a Mental Health team on site should this be needed.
